Bandaid Haze #7 – Origin, Lineage and Selection
Bandaid Haze #7 is not a strain you buy as seed. It is a clone: a single plant passed on as cuttings. It comes from a cross the breeder Bodhi made in 2013; the breeder Doc D found it as the seventh plant he picked out of his first test grow and sent a cutting back to Bodhi. The mother is the Haze clone Cuban Black Haze, and the father comes from the clone A5 Haze, pollinated by a Thai plant.
Most people hear the name and think of the smell of a fresh sticking plaster. According to the forum voices from that time, the meaning was different: Bodhi named Bandaid Haze for its effect, saying the strain “heals all wounds”. The plaster reading comes from a later grower report on Xanadu, a cross of Bandaid Haze #7 with Bubba Kush. Before it had a name, Bodhi called the line “Piff” or “b-piff”.
The Mother, Cuban Black Haze
Cuban Black Haze, the mother of Bandaid Haze #7, is a clone from South Florida that first went by The Black or Black Haze and was kept in Miami by Cuban growers. Its lineage is undocumented, and the accounts differ: a Florida grower names a Colombian Purple Haze × Northern Lights #5, Katsu Seeds a Haze cross with Afghan, Colombian and Cuban ancestry, and other breeders suspect an old selection from Northern Lights #5 × Haze. In New York the clone went under the catch-all name Piff, which many Haze clones carried there. Doc D gives Cuban Black Haze about fourteen weeks of flowering.
The Father, from A5 Haze and the Mirakel Thai
The father of Bandaid Haze #7 was a male plant from A5 Haze × Mirakel Thai. A5 Haze is a clone from Northern Lights #5 and male A of Original Haze. A Thai plant grew in the same room as this clone and pollinated the A5 plants; according to one forum voice, it is named after the Mirakel coffeeshop it came from. Karma Genetics was already handing out seed of this line in 2009 as a free extra under the name “A5 X Mirakel”, four years before Bodhi germinated his seeds.
Cross and Selection
In the most widely repeated account, Bodhi germinated the father seeds of Bandaid Haze #7 in early 2013 and got a single male. Against his usual practice he kept it without any females to compare against, and used it on his Cuban Black Haze clone. The seeds went to Doc D, who grew them as a tester, picked phenotype #7 from the F1 and sent a cutting back to Bodhi. In his 2022 strain list, Doc D lists the plant as “Bandaid Haze F1 no.7”. He has carried the line on, among others as Bandaid Haze ix 3.0, a backcross to #7.
Growing
Bandaid Haze #7 flowers for a long time: the original account gives a hundred days, and Katsu Seeds writes that most growers harvest at thirteen weeks while the plant keeps gaining until week sixteen. It stretches hard in flower, which is why growers recommend tying it down or training it under a net. How long crosses flower depends on the partner: a cross with a CBG-rich Durban took fourteen to twenty weeks for one grower. No lab test of its cannabinoid content is documented in the sources read; the original account mentions a test “in the high 20’s” without naming the compound, the lab or the date.
Open Questions about the Origin of Bandaid Haze #7
Three points in the origin of Bandaid Haze #7 are not documented first-hand. In every forum source read, the father seeds reached Bodhi through a breeder known as e.T., who demonstrably held seed of this line; one retailer description names Doc D as the go-between instead, with no forum source behind it. Who produced the father seeds is open: the original account names a Spanish grower in South Holland, Karma Genetics a Dutch friend who pollinated his room in the late 1990s. And the often-copied formula “Cuban Black Haze × (a5/thai × Mirakel)” names the same Thai twice; the lineage itself is Cuban Black Haze × (A5 Haze × Mirakel Thai).
