Khalifa Genetics – Afghan Lemon (Afghan Balkh Landrace)

Origins & Background

In 2019, the Khalifa team discovered an outstanding lemony phenotype during a preservation run with the Balkh Hash Plant – frostier than most and with an unusually expressive aroma profile. Through a three-year collaboration with Bestgrower_420, this unique phenotype was stabilised into a true breeding strain. The result: consistently aroma-rich, lemon-scented plants with resinous buds.

The Balkh Region

Balkh province in northern Afghanistan is home to some of the world’s most significant dry-sift landrace varieties – including the famous “Milk of Mazar” and the “Old Golden One”. For hundreds of years, farmers in this region have cultivated cannabis and refined their dry-sieving techniques from generation to generation. Afghan Lemon is a direct expression of this rich heritage – one of the purest phenotypes of one of the world’s greatest hash plant landraces.

Aroma Profile

When handling the flowers, the resin leaves an intense citrus-resin scent on the fingers that persists for several minutes. The terpene profile combines fresh, natural citrus notes with classic old-school hash aromas – very different from the sweet-chemical lemon scent found in many Californian strains.

Compact & Robust

Afghan Lemon is a true afghanica with bushy plants and incredibly stable stems – no support required, even in strong winds. Buds can become quite dense and heavy, making good air circulation essential to prevent mould. This pure indica thrives with minimal care and shows virtually no flowering stretch.
