Khalifa Genetics – Sheberghan Hash Plant | Pure Indica Landrace from Northern Afghanistan
The Sheberghan Hash Plant by Khalifa Genetics is one of the most resin-rich indica landraces in Central Asia. Cultivated for generations by farmers in the northern Afghan province of Jowzjan, this true hash plant impresses with exceptional resin production, a sweet-earthy terpene profile and a robust, beginner-friendly growth structure.
The Sheberghan Region
Sheberghan is the capital of the northern Afghan province of Jowzjan and sits in one of Central Asia’s most historically significant regions. As a former settlement along the ancient Silk Road, the city served for centuries as a trading hub between East and West – a history still reflected today in the region’s exceptional cultural diversity. The majority of the population belongs to the Uzbek ethnic group, though Tajiks, Turkmens, Hazara and Pashtuns have also shaped the region across generations.
Jowzjan province lies within the Amu Darya basin and is characterised by a continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters – conditions under which the Sheberghan Hash Plant was selected over centuries and to which it is perfectly adapted. Northern Afghanistan is known for producing some of the country’s finest resin varieties. Although Balkh and Mazar-i-Sharif enjoy greater name recognition, Sheberghan also produces a dry-sift resin of exceptional quality – traditionally crafted by Uzbek farmers using time-honoured methods that have changed little across generations.
True Hash Plant
As a landrace with broad genetic diversity, potency varies by phenotype. As with most hash plant landraces, the Sheberghan displays a wide cannabinoid spectrum: some specimens are CBD-dominant, others full-spectrum with a balanced THC-CBD ratio, and others are THC-dominant.
Most plants develop a pleasant, resinous and earthy scent with subtle skunk notes during flowering. The terpene profile is expressive and indicative of a high sesquiterpene content – sweet, full-bodied and persistent in aroma.
A Robust Indica
This easy-to-grow, beginner-friendly strain produces leafy buds covered in sticky trichomes. Not only the flowers but also most small leaves display a dense, frosty layer of resin glands. Depending on the phenotype, bud density ranges from moderately dense to very dense.
Plants handle well both indoors and outdoors. During the flowering stretch, only a doubling in size is to be expected. The Sheberghan Hash Plant also develops strong, stable branches that require little to no support. Most plants display the characteristic broad indica leaflets, though some phenotypes may exhibit narrower leaflets.
These plants are moderate feeders – requiring more nutrients than most landraces but less than most modern cannabis hybrids. The Sheberghan thrives even at very high or very low temperatures, but requires low relative humidity during the flowering phase – the autumn season in Jowzjan province is correspondingly very dry.
Origins & Preservation
Khalifa Genetics personally collected the seeds in 2018 in Jowzjan province near the city of Sheberghan – in collaboration with Landrace Genetics, an experienced strain hunter specialising in the collection and preservation of Afghan and Pakistani landraces. The Khalifa team subsequently worked to adapt this strain for indoor cultivation – by reducing hermaphroditism and minimising unwanted phenotypes while preserving as much of the original genetic diversity as possible.
