Speed Queen (Mandala Seeds) – Short Indica from the Himalaya

Speed Queen is a compact, vigorous indica from Mandala Seeds bred from Himachal genetics and the P1/J3 lines. Mandala counts it among its best “hard-2-kill” strains and re-released it by popular demand after more than ten years. It flowers fast, stays short, hardly smells and can almost be left to itself.

What is Speed Queen?

Even the seedlings form fleshy, broad leaves and an almost tree-like main stem with heavily reinforced internodes. The strong root system takes up nutrients quickly. In rich organic soil with enough root space, it needs very little care.

Does Speed Queen flower on its own?

Partly, yes: once the plant is big enough, flowering can start almost by itself. Mandala speaks of a nearly semi-automatic character. If you want the full four weeks of vegetative growth, run 20/4, especially under weaker light.

For small plants on a balcony or in a northern greenhouse, germinate by the end of May or early June
Start earlier for maximum size

Growing: what to expect

Flowering takes from 55 days. From 46° north the harvest is usually done by mid October, and it survives short cold spells near freezing. In Mediterranean climates the harvest comes at the end of September or earlier.

Because it hardly stretches, it is not a strain for LST or SCROG. Untopped with one main cola, it can be planted densely. Mandala reports storm resistance, high heat and cold tolerance and very high resistance to whiteflies, spider mites and thrips.

Indoors, use 3.5–5 l air pots from start to harvest
For branched plants, top early and allow at least one extra week of vegetative growth
Yield per the breeder: from 350 g/m² indoors in organic soil, from 850 g per plant outdoors

Aroma

The aroma ranges from tangerine and citrus to spicy notes with a hint of mint. In flower the plant gives off remarkably little odour.

Effect

The breeder states 15–17% THC. The high is thought-provoking and calming at the same time, and Mandala calls it the “Surfer’s High”.

Who it’s for

Speed Queen suits balcony, outdoor and guerrilla growers who need a tough, fast strain. According to Mandala, breeders use it to revive tired lines and to shorten height and flowering time.
