White Bhutanese (Mandala Seeds) – Feminized Landrace Sativa from Central Bhutan
White Bhutanese from Mandala Seeds brings authentic landrace genetics from the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan to market for the first time. Its mother plants come from wild seed from Wangdi Province and have stayed unchanged since collection. The strain is only one generation removed from its origin, grows as a tall, classic sativa and tolerates extreme heat.
What is White Bhutanese?
In Wangdi the landrace grows in a subtropical climate with cool winters at 1,300–2,000 m. For the feminized version, Mandala crossed the mothers with a selected pollen donor. The landrace traits were kept, while bud quality and consistency improved.

Where does White Bhutanese grow best?
Mandala lists it as an outdoor strain for the Mediterranean and warm regions up to about 43° north. Further north it belongs in a greenhouse. In the USA the breeder names USDA zones 9 to 11.
According to Mandala, it is especially worthwhile in regions with nearly equal days and nights or high humidity. Bhutanese landraces are not prone to hermaphroditism according to Mandala’s stress tests.
Growing: what to expect
The outdoor harvest falls from late October to November. Untopped and planted in June, it reaches up to 2.5 m in a hot climate, even in a container. Mandala tested it in a greenhouse at up to 48 °C, and mould resistance is high.
Heavy pruning costs landrace sativas in containers yield, so topping once is enough. It grows undemandingly in good soil, but its size and long flowering mean it needs enough nutrients throughout.
- For moderate size, plant so that about one month of vegetative growth remains
- Remove the lower shoots to strengthen the upper branches
- In containers, feed additionally during flowering
- Time the harvest by bud ripeness and weather, not by amber trichomes: clear to slightly milky resin is typical of the strain
Aroma
Towards harvest, spice, lemon and fruit appear together with mint and nuts in changing combinations. Mandala compares it to Indian mithai sweets made with cashew, pistachio and cardamom. After curing, lemon and mint remain the defining notes.
Effect
The breeder states 12–14% THC, and 30% as oil, rosin or wax. The high feels natural and balanced, lifts the mind and lasts long without restlessness or paranoia.
Who it’s for
White Bhutanese suits landrace collectors and growers in warm regions who can let a tall, late sativa ripen fully. If you prefer the character of traditional genetics to the potency of modern hybrids, this is a rare opportunity.
