Moroccan Beldia: The Legendary Kief Strain
The Beldia is the strain that Rif farmers have been cultivating for generations to produce the famous traditional Moroccan kief. This landrace from Khalifa Genetics thrives in both indoor and outdoor cultivation, tolerating drought, high temperatures and nutrient-poor soils with ease. Its sweet honey fragrance and delicate floral-minty flavour are unique and incomparable to any other strain.
It is arguably one of the fastest-flowering sativas in the world and is exceptionally well suited to outdoor cultivation. Having adapted to the harsh, arid climate of the Moroccan Rif Mountains, it tolerates high temperatures and requires very little water and nutrients.
Semi-Autoflowering Strain
The plants are robust but produce few side branches, making this strain particularly well suited to Sea of Green setups. Indoors, the Beldia is ready after just 7 to 9 weeks of flowering. Outdoors, plants are harvest-ready between early August and late September. This authentic Moroccan Beldia is semi-autoflowering, meaning it can begin flowering independently of the photoperiod. Topping the plants and providing high-quality substrate can extend the vegetative growth phase. This Moroccan landrace is low-maintenance and easy to grow both indoors and outdoors.
Special Characteristics
The aroma is sweet and floral with minty and spicy undertones – highly unique and completely unlike the typical cannabis scent. The delicate fragrance is reminiscent of sweet honey, making it particularly interesting for discreet outdoor cultivation.
The seed material was collected by Khalifa Genetics several years ago across multiple remote mountain regions of the Chefchaouen province. In these areas, farmers were still growing exclusively the old Moroccan Beldia – which is why this line remains very pure.
These seeds are the result of 4 generations of open pollination. The goal was to reduce the proportion of weak plants and hermaphrodites while preserving the genetic diversity of the strain.
This Moroccan landrace is at least 800 years old and is increasingly disappearing from the Rif Mountains today. Moroccan farmers have been cultivating it for traditional resin production since the 1960s. Prior to that, it was grown for its fine flowers.
