Laos Highland from the Border Regions of Laos/Myanmar/China
A Laos Highland sativa of exceptional vigour, cultivated for generations by members of the Akha ethnic group. This sativa landrace from northern Laos captivates with an abundance of colours and delightful aromas. Ideal for collectors, preservers and breeders seeking outstanding vitality, mould resistance and distinctive terpenes.
One of the most vigorous landrace strains we have ever encountered – and possibly one of the fastest-flowering varieties in all of Southeast Asia. Plants can reach enormous sizes very rapidly, yet remain manageable even indoors thanks to their comparatively short flowering time.
The Akha tribe may have brought seeds from nearby Yunnan to northern Laos when fleeing China in the early 20th century. This could explain why this sativa-like strain also displays some indica characteristics. The sweet-creamy aromas, relatively short flowering time and large trichome glands set this strain apart from most tropical ganja cultivars. This fascinating combination suggests a possible connection between Yunnan landraces and tall-growing Southeast Asian sativas.
This Laos Highland strain produces large and very round seeds. In the early stages of vegetative growth, plants have broad leaflets that narrow as they develop, yet remain broader than most tropical landraces.
Special Characteristics
This cultivar thrives even in very nutrient-poor soils – the substrate should therefore not be too nutrient-rich. Although the height increase during the flowering stretch is extreme, plants begin flowering very early – after just 3 weeks. Outdoor harvest: November to December.
Many plants turn light purple towards the end of their flowering cycle. The purple phenotypes develop deep berry notes, while the green buds frequently express a floral-vanilla aroma. A small proportion of the green phenotypes display a hazy-citrus note.
The aroma profile of most flowers is fruity-soapy with a woody character.
Bodhi, renowned strain hunter and breeder, collected the seeds on location in 2014 during his seed expedition through Yunnan, China and northern Laos. A joint preservation project with Mitseedco subsequently enabled the Khalifa Genetics team to preserve this rare strain while simultaneously improving its sex stability in indoor cultivation.
This rare Laos Highland is recommended for collectors, preservers and breeders seeking extreme vigour, mould resistance and unique terpenes.
